Extrusion is a forming process for producing bars, wire rod, tubes and irregular-shaped sections. With this method a metal billet, heated to forming temperature, is pressed through a die using an extrusion stem. Proper heating of the material to be formed is a crucial factor in this process. For this IAS has developed the ExtruLine series of machinery that is specially tailored to induction heating plants. These IAS plants, which are precisely adapted to the materials to be processed, including aluminium, copper and their alloys, as well as to special materials such as titanium, steel or magnesium alloys, guarantee exact and above all reproducible billet temperatures. With IAS induction plants the induced power is converted into heat directly in the workpiece in an energy-efficient manner, thereby avoiding the risk of overheating on the billet surface, particularly in the case of large billet diameters and high power densities. As a result, the material is consistently heated throughout.
