A sustainable treat with Dengo Chocolates’ new 100% recyclable truffle packaging with aluminium bands

Dengo Chocolates, a Brazilian bean-to-bar chocolate brand, introduced an innovative truffle packaging this year that is 100 per cent recyclable, featuring aluminium bands and no plastic. This development follows two years of extensive research and development, underscoring the company’s dedication to sustainability and minimising environmental impact.

Dengo tested 19 different rolls of paper, varnishes, and aluminium strips to achieve this breakthrough, carefully selecting the optimal combination. The process involved a deep focus on innovation and sustainability while ensuring the packaging met the standards set by Brazil’s National Health Surveillance Agency (Anvisa), all without compromising the chocolate’s quality or flavour.

The new packaging, crafted from 40 g/m² white monolucid kraft paper with an aluminium lining, ensures the product’s preservation, keeping it fresh, flavourful, and true to the natural taste of chocolate.

“This work is part of our goals aligned with the 2030 Agenda. We are committed to becoming plastic-free as quickly as possible – and we are almost there!” the company said.

Dengo’s truffle line features a variety of options to suit every palate, including classic flavours like dulce de leche and ganache, as well as unique combinations such as bay orange, lime, and passion fruit. The company also emphasises the artisanal care involved in production, including the manual grating of citrus peels in some recipes.

As per AL Circle’s report, ‘Aluminium in Packaging: Consumer Trends and Market Dynamics,’ aluminium packaging remains a robust and versatile solution for the consumer market, valued for its sustainability, recyclability, and adaptability. Its eco-friendly attributes make it an ideal choice for brands dedicated to addressing the needs of environmentally conscious consumers while maintaining high standards of product quality and safety. With ongoing technological advancements and shifting consumer preferences, the aluminium packaging industry is well-positioned for sustained growth and innovation.
