On August 3, Acer Malaysia unveiled a catalogue featuring the latest laptops for the local market, among which Acer Swift 5 made headlines with its approach to sustainability. The laptop is equipped with a CNC-machined chassis made of aerospace aluminium and 12th Gen Intel Core i7 and i5 processors.
The Acer Swift 5 is technically very light and portable, suitable for on-the-go professionals and students and can be used by families. Its compact and modern design is due to the precisely engineered aluminium framework and a 14-inch IPS WQXGA display which together weigh only 1.2kg.
Regarding performance, the Acer Swift 5 has both higher-end and base models, the former having a resolution of 2560 x 1600 pixels and 425 nits brightness configuration and the latter sporting a 1920 x 1200 pixels and 340 nits brightness. Each 14.95mm tall laptop has a 16:10 aspect ratio aligned with 100 per cent colour gamut sRGB, 92.22 per cent screen-to-body ratio, multi-touch, an antibacterial cover glass and supports Acer CineCrystal LED-backlit FT LCD.
With more and more leading companies moving towards sustainability, it was a very innovative move from Acer’s side to introduce aerospace aluminium as a raw material for its laptop’s chassis. Aerospace aluminium is usually the purest, and sit needs the least amount of sorting time before recycling.
The higher-end models have an in-built 12th Gen Intel Core i7, whereas; the base model flaunts the 12th Gen Intel Core i5. Each variant inherits Intel Iris Xe graphics, up to 16GB dual-channel LPDDR5 RAM and up to 1TB PCIe NVMe SSD storage.
Also, the Swift 5 has a power button that reads fingerprints, an air inlet at its backlit keyboard to keep the device heat-free and an Antimicrobial Corning Gorilla Glass for surface immunity. An upgraded TwinAir dual-fan system with D6 heat pipes has been installed to keep the laptop cool.
Acer assures its customers that the Swift 5 comes certified with Intel Evo to give great technical services, like 10 hours of real-world battery life, a 30-minute charging speed that yields over 4 hours of battery and instant wake from sleep.
While listing the sustainability targets, it can be mentioned that the laptop’s OceanGlass touchpad is forged out of ocean-bound plastic waste, giving a smooth feather-touch appeal with added multi-finger gesture modifications.
