{alcircleadd}The First Movers Coalition (FMC), which is also an initiative by the World Economic Forum in partnership with the United States government, has set a goal that 10 per cent of its members’ annual aluminium procurement volume should meet or exceed the standard of low-carbon primary aluminium determined by the Coalition. The benchmark set by the First Movers Coalition is below 3 tonnes of CO2e emissions per tonne of primary aluminium.
To enable the FMC members to meet the low-carbon aluminium target, First Suppliers Hub is bringing the decarbonisation technology providers on the platform, such as Alcoa, known for providing cutting-edge solutions to the manufacturing industries for their decarbonisation efforts.
On joining the First Suppliers Hub, Renato Bacchi, Executive Vice President and Chief Commercial Officer at Alcoa, said: “Alcoa’s breakthrough technologies support our customers’ decarbonization efforts now and into the future. By joining the First Suppliers Hub, we are further simplifying options for end-users at some of the world’s leading companies to reduce emissions within their supply chains.”
He further said, “With ELYSIS®, we are capable of producing aluminum using an innovative carbon-free smelting process. Alcoa is working to bring our customers – and the world – closer to a lower carbon future.”
Elysis is the world’s first carbon-free smelting technology that eliminates all direct greenhouse gas emissions from the aluminium smelting process leveraging inert anode application. This advanced technology makes aluminium production possible meeting the FMC standard when paired with renewable power and low-carbon alumina to the production process.
Alcoa also offers a portfolio of aluminium products to help customers reduce their carbon footprints, such as the Sustana® line of products that includes EcoLum® aluminum, EcoSource® alumina, and EcoDura® aluminum.
