The all-aluminium custom-made electric chopper from Wannabe-Choppers in Germany features a novel power supply and a mock aluminium V-twin engine. The bespoke electric chopper is a gorgeous, svelte motorcycle that could compete with any gasoline-powered vehicle. Although this chopper is entirely electric, it doesn't compromise performance or aesthetics.
"This bike—its stance, the way it looks—is something I had in my mind for a long time. It was just something in my head I needed to get out," said Enrico de Haas of Germany's Wannabe-Choppers.
The model aluminium engine replicates the custom machine Enrico aspires to create in the future. The controller for the motor, the battery, and the converter for the throttle are all housed in the gearbox. The bike's on/off switch is the jockey shifter, and 24 lithium-ion batteries are under the single seat.
Enrico and his crew debated names for the motorbike, including "Hidden Power" and "Fake News," but ultimately decided on "AlSi9Mg," which refers to the chemical composition of the cast aluminium pieces.
Its hub motor and single-gear construction let it go at astonishing speeds, while the all-aluminium frame makes it lightweight and very manoeuvrable. The fake aluminium V-twin engine, a piece of art and engineering that blurs the borders between form and function, is one of the bike's most notable aspects.
Wannabe-Choppers is a boutique manufacturer of aluminium alloy components for custom motorbikes and is based in the municipality of Huettenberg. They cast and machine pieces for companies all over the world. De Haas founded Wannabe 14 years ago when he was 15 to create motorcycle parts, and the company has since expanded to now employ 5.
