According to the International Aluminium Institute data, alumina production in Africa & Asia (ex-China) during May 2023 amounted to 1.167 million tonnes, reflecting a month-on-month hike of 8.05 per cent from 1.080 million tonnes. The growth continued after an increase of 1.41 per cent in April from 1.065 million tonnes in March 2023.
{alcircleadd}However, on a year-on-year calculation, Africa & Asia’s (ex-China) alumina output in May edged a fall of 3.55 per cent from 1.21 million tonnes, found IAI.
The daily average output in May 2023 stood at 37,600 tonnes, up by 4.4 per cent M-o-M from 36,000 tonnes and down by 3.6 per cent Y-o-Y from 39,000 tonnes.
Africa & Asia’s total alumina production during the first five months of 2023 amounted to 5.464 million tonnes – 4.16 per cent less than 5.701 million tonnes during the corresponding period of the previous year.
The world’s alumina output in May 2023 was 11.918 million tonnes, increasing by 4.32 per cent from 11.425 million tonnes in April. But on a year-on-year basis, the production decreased 2.34 per cent from 12.204 million tonnes, showed IAI.
During January-May 2023, the world’s alumina production totalled 56.715 million tonnes, down by 1 per cent from 57.282 million tonnes a year ago.
