Colorado-based Ball Corporation is extending its activities in South America with a new production facility in Chilca, Peru. The beverage can manufacturer has estimated a production capacity of more than 1 billion aluminium cans each year and will start commercial supply by 2023.
This publicised expenditure will permit the company to form a better supply chain for the growing packaging market in Peru and its nearby regions. The new plant has a compound that remains spread along a 95,000 square meter area in Chilca, Peru. Ball Corporation will initiate 100 direct and 300 indirect new positions due to an investment aimed at the production of multi-sized aluminium cans.
Ball Corporation provides sustainable and innovative aluminium packaging solutions for beverages, household products and personal care items, along with components for the aviation industry and other technical fields related mainly to the US Government. Ball employs more or less 24,000 people globally and has 15 plants in South America, notably in Brazil, Paraguay, Argentina and Chile. The company has record net sales of $13.8 billion in 2021.
The Commercial Vice President for Ball Beverage Packaging, South America, Fauze Villatoro exclaimed: "We are pleased to announce the opening of a new plant in Peru, a country where consumption of canned drinks has been increasing considerably in the last few years. With this investment, we can respond to the market more solidly and be closer to our customers in the country, always with the most sustainable package in the beverage industry."
Ball Corporation has launched the first batch of ASI-certified beverage cans in America, marking itself as a certified member of the Aluminium Stewardship Initiative. Currently, the company emphasises more on the parameters of sustainability and a long-term growth expansion pattern to keep up with the emerging demand for aluminium beverage cans around the world.
