On March 14, Ball Aluminum Cups®, together with Copper Mountain Resort and the POWDR Adventure Lifestyle Corporation, announced that they successfully installed a Reverse Vending Machine (RVM) at Jack's Slopeside Grill in Copper Mountain, a famous mountain and ski resort in Colorado, to boost the practice of aluminium recycling in the mountain town.
The reverse vending machine installed in Copper Mountain is powered by the Recycle Track Systems® (RTS) Cycle platform. Recycle Track Systems® is a leading recycling data collection provider. It helps businesses and communities manage waste more responsibly using technology to streamline collection routes and stay in contact with pickup sites.
The installation of RVM will help the mountain town increase recycling rates, incentivising aluminium can users. Guests at the resort can insert their Ball Aluminum Cups®, aluminium cans or aluminium bottles into the machine, which will scan the product, crush and sort the aluminium packaging. In return, the consumers can get surprise gift hampers from Play Forever merchandise.
Michelle Fick, Ball Aluminum Cups® Vice President of Commercial, said: "Installing the reverse vending machine at Copper Mountain Resort is an incredible opportunity to incentivize recycling and educate consumers about aluminum's sustainable properties to help protect one of Colorado's beloved mountain towns."
She added, "At Ball, we recognize the power of ski resorts and other outdoor adventure centers to drive change and believe interacting with the RVM will encourage guests to make more sustainable everyday choices while enhancing their experience at the resort."
Jeff Grasser, Copper Mountain Senior Resort Operations and Sustainability Manager, said: "At Copper Mountain Resort, we're excited to reinforce our commitment to sustainability with the introduction of this reverse vending machine. In collaboration with partners like Ball and Recycle Track Systems, we're revolutionizing recycling practices and engaging our community in a meaningful way. Together, through initiatives like this, we aim to inspire and reward participants, fostering a collective passion for a more sustainable future."
Recycle Track Systems® CEO Gregory Lettieri said, "RTS is excited to enhance our collaboration with Ball Aluminum Cup® at Copper Mountain, bringing our Cycle Reverse Vending Machines to the forefront of eco-innovation. This partnership is a testament to our mutual dedication to the environment and making recycling an engaging and meaningful activity. Beyond just reducing waste, we're fostering a sense of environmental stewardship among visitors, showcasing the real-world impact of our collective efforts. It's a step towards redefining environmental responsibility, blending sustainability seamlessly with the great outdoors."
Ball Corporation is focused on sustainable packaging of aluminium cups, cans, and bottles. Therefore, it has increased the usage of recycled aluminium to 90 per cent in its packaging, the highest recycled content rate of any beverage packaging in its category.
