Aludium, a company that specialises in producing aluminium rolled products for various global markets, has recently embarked on a long-term Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) with Statkraft, Europe's largest renewable energy generator based in Norway. The agreement aims to benefit both companies in the long run.
{alcircleadd}The agreement between Statkraft and Fortia Energía has been signed in the spirit of strengthening their relationship and cooperation. This contract, which is set to become effective on July 1, 2024, is valid for ten years. Through this strategic alliance, Aludium will be able to meet over one-third of its annual electricity consumption needs with renewable energy, which is a significant milestone towards reducing the total carbon emissions intensity to less than 4.5 t CO2/t Al (cradle-to-gate).
The sustainability goals set for 2025, which include using renewable energy for electricity supply, creating certified low-carbon emission products, increasing the recycling of aluminium scrap, and maintaining the highest industry standards in environmental management certifications, are aimed towards driving the climate transition.
The contract is a significant step towards decarbonising industrial activities and promoting renewable and clean electricity. The CEO of Aludium, Lionel Chapis, commented: "With the signing of this agreement, we are taking a significant step towards achieving our goal of having an electricity consumption based solely on renewable energy. This marks a notable milestone in our roadmap to meet the sustainability objectives set for 2025."
"The company's action to combat climate change involves accelerating the pace, as part of the solution, toward a transition to clean energy that transforms the planet into a more sustainable, healthy, and resilient place for present and future generations," explained Chapis.
The Head of Origination Iberia at Statkraft, Tiago Thomaz, further went on to elaborate: "This agreement is further proof of how Statkraft is a key partner for heavy industry, accompanying them on their path to decarbonisation and making it possible for them to continue to generate employment and welfare in a sustainable way. A net zero future won't be possible if the industry is not part of it, as Aludium is doing".
The General Manager of Fortia Energía, Juan Temboury, specified: "This agreement aims at reducing emissions and diversifying supply sources and are key to reduce the uncertainty faced by generators and consumers in the electricity market. The long-term partnership established with Statkraft in 2018 shows the commitment of Fortia Energía to play a key role in the path towards energy transition and the decarbonisation of industrials."
