Indonesia imported US$156.9 billion worth of goods from around the globe in 2017, an increase of 15.7 per cent year on year. Aluminium scrap import by Indonesia also increased over the last three years. The country is estimated to increase its aluminium scrap import this year. Indonesia’s import of alumina increased in both volume and value in 2017 when compared to 2016 data.
The USA exported the largest chunk of aluminium scrap to Indonesia. In 2017, the USA exported 27518 tonnes of aluminium scrap to the country (estimated). United Kingdom, Australia, Netherlands, Canada, were the other suppliers of aluminium scrap to the country.
{alcircleadd}According to the international trade data, Indonesia imported 74450 tonnes of aluminium scrap in 2017, an 11 per cent up from its 2016 imports totalling 66997 tonnes. This year, the country’s import of aluminium scrap is estimated to increase 29 per cent from last year. Indonesia is estimated to import 95677 tonnes of aluminium scrap in 2018.
The cost of aluminium scrap imports in Indonesia increased on a yearly basis. Total aluminium scrap imports was valued at US$81 million in 2016, which increased to reach US$91 million in 2017. In 2018, the value is estimated to increase further and reach US$257 million.
