This year at Aluminium 2022- Düsseldorf, there was a spectacle in view by designer Ayse Byzanz when she featured her flagship aluminium bridal dress collection. Every bride wishes to look radiant on their wedding day, and wearing an aluminium wedding gown can be the most extraordinary thing possible.
The designer claims the fabric is so comfortable that the award-winning aluminium wedding gown can be worn all day. This is not her first time designing an ethnic outfit with such a unique element; the German designer has also created shoes, jeans, accessories and business cards with an aluminium fabric she has patented.
Byzanz also has an extensive range of aluminium-forged wall art and a couple of other beautiful artworks.
For many years, threads made of precious metals have been worn by royalty worldwide, like the Persians used in their carpets and the Indians in their sarees. These metallic threads were either gold or silver, hammered into thin sheets, then cut like ribbons and transformed into fabric. In the olden days, soldiers wore metal veils to protect their faces during the war.
Ayse Byzanz is not the first person to incorporate aluminium into fashion. In the 1960’s Paco Rabanne, the French designer created a wedding dress and uncountable other ‘wearables’ in aluminium, a style the 82-year designer carried out in making signature dresses worn by Audrey Hepburn and Jane Fonda.
In addition to being recyclable, aluminium is extremely lightweight and malleable, which gives the maker a perfect opportunity to create whatever is desired.
Nowadays, metallic fibres are usually found in bouquets and decorative items. It was a brilliant idea to utilize this fantastic non-ferrous metal because it can be infinitely recycled without losing the actual properties of the element.
Most contemporary metallic fibres are manufactured by one of the two fundamental processes available to mankind, the first one being lamination and the second one metallization. Lamination produces a plastic-coated metal, where the aluminium is sealed between two acetate layers or polyester film. In metallization, a metal-coated plastic is produced by heating the metal until it evaporates and is deposited on a polyester film at high pressure. Both these sheets are cut into extremely thin ribbons and folded in yarn.
Since aluminium is a glossy white metal, the produced fabric has an in-built gloss, making any dress shiny and a fantastic site for the eyes.
With the growing need for sustainability, most of the fashionable and concerned crowds are looking for recycled clothing. Many big names and generic brands like Mango, Levis, and Vero Moda have shifted toward using recycled fabric to make their clothes.
