The internationally recognized body of the Aluminium industry, The Aluminium Association, which assigns all-new aluminium alloy designations, has accepted the registration of the A20X powder with new metal powder designations.
Aluminium Materials Technologies (now part of Eckart GmbH, an Altana Group company), which produced the high strength aluminium alloy A20X will now go by the following official designations:
The formation of these new metal powder product designations grants the aluminium industry to identify the A20X product in use. This delivers encouragement to those wishing to work with A20X knowing it is an internationally recognized alloy with fixed and standardized alloy composition.
The A20X powder for laser powder bed fusion (LPBF) has been developed for high strength production components to be used in the most demanding applications. The alloy presents high-temperature resistance properties, stress corrosion resistance and significantly better fatigue properties when compared to Al-Si based additive manufacturing alloys.
In the first place, it was developed as a casting alloy, but now A20X is available for use in laser powder bed fusion additive manufacturing and acceptable for use with all leading brands of AM equipment, it has been used to produce parts with up to 511MPa UTS and over 13% elongation.
