With a focus on the aluminium beverage can production chain, Ambev has planned various initiatives for the benefit of around 30 thousand partners, street sellers, and recyclable collectors targeted at the Carnival blocks. The initiative started together by the National Association of Collectors and Collectors of Recyclable Materials (ANCAT) project in collaboration with beverage maker Ambev, will combine enjoyment with employment as street parties are typically the most lucrative for these professionals.
{alcircleadd}Waste pickers in Brazil are the real leaders in collecting recyclable solid trash, including aluminium, cardboard, glass, plastic, and other materials. Some 1,100 individual and cooperative collectors will participate in the "Bloco dos Catadores" in So Paulo and Recife, taking advantage of the carnival celebration's rhythm.
"We love Carnival and, for another year, we are alongside street vendors and collectors from all over Brazil. Its activities generate income for many families, in addition to sustainability for parties, giving visibility to everyone through our marketing actions", said Alexandre Costa, Marketing director at Ambev.
In addition to compensation from the sale of the items they will gather, the block's registered collectors will also get a specific sum each working day. During the event, it is anticipated that 60 tonnes will be collected in So Paulo and 25 tonnes in Recife. Carnival blocks, also known as blocos de rua or carnaval blocos, are street bands that energise people on the streets and are the primary way Brazilians exhibit their love for the holiday.
Aluminium beverage cans are secure and convenient for individuals who enjoy having parties on the streets. According to the Brazilian Aluminum Association (ABAL), the recycling rate in Brazil was 98.7 per cent in 2021.
