Amcor, a prominent company specializing in developing and producing responsible packaging solutions for various industries such as food, beverage, pharmaceutical, medical, and home/personal care, has joined forces with Aludium, a leading European aluminium supplier, to produce a low-carbon aluminium product designed explicitly for screwcaps. This collaboration aims to offer a low-carbon alternative in the production of packaging materials, further enhancing sustainability efforts in the industry.
The recently introduced aluminium product achieves a carbon footprint reduction of over 50 per cent compared to the average carbon footprint of primary aluminium sold in Europe.
The innovative technology uses low-carbon primary aluminium and recycled content together, resulting in less than 4 tonnes of CO2 equivalent produced per tonne of aluminium from raw material extraction to delivery.
Bertrand Daru, the Director of Sustainability at Amcor Capsules, said, “We are passionate about bringing more sustainable products to market. We are already leading the market with 96 per cent of our products being recycle-ready. But we want to go further and reduce the levels of CO2 emitted during manufacturing. Our aluminium screw caps offer a more sustainable alternative for wine and spirits brands and distributors.”

A third party independently confirms the aluminium product's GHG emissions, which are then certified in accordance with ISO-14067-1:2018 and the Greenhouse Gas Protocol Standards. To provide complete clarity of the carbon impact of aluminium, Amcor Capsules and Aludium underwent a rigorous certification process.
