With the opening of a printed can factory in 2022, American Canning will bring technologically cutting-edge, internationally renowned Aluminium Toyo Ultimate Can (aTULC) manufacture to Austin, Texas. David Racino, the Co-Founder and CEO of American Canning, along with COO and Co-Founder Mike Daniel, had come together in 2020 to address the lack of can packaging accessibility for the craft beer industry. Toyo Seikan was simultaneously looking to enter the American craft beverage sector with their newly created small manufacturing line.
The aTULC line was created by Toyo Seikan (Japan) in order to balance the environmental impact of the manufacturing process with the limitless recyclability of an aluminium can. This was done in keeping with American Canning's vision of finding inventive and approachable advances in can packaging supplies.
With the combined capabilities of the two businesses and the premium advantages of aTULC cans, craft brewers will benefit the fastest-growing beverage industries in the US, including wine, spirits, health and wellness, and speciality beverage product lines.
The minimum order quantity for American Canning, which sets it apart from other printed can suppliers, is anticipated to be one truckload to best accommodate craft manufacturers with small-batch, multi-SKU packaging operations. Early 2023 will see increased sales with the start of production, which will first produce 12 oz standard cans before soon expanding to 16 oz standard cans.
“We saw an opportunity to meet evolving demands within the beverage industry with new technologies. We were inspired by Toyo Seikan’s concept of developing a compact, environmentally friendly process for producing premium beverage cans and are excited to introduce this new technology to the North American market,” said American Canning CEO and Co-Founder, David Racino.
Major and minor businesses have utilised the aTULC can-making technique for twenty years, and it is manufactured across nine manufacturing facilities worldwide. It uses the principles of high functionality, low cost, and minimal environmental impact to produce premium beverage packaging solutions while ensuring the sustainability of aluminium throughout its life cycle.
The first compact-concept aTULC production line in the world will be employed by American Canning, making it feasible to make printed cans to fulfil demand with a reduced footprint. As a result of the need for more compact beverage packaging, American Canning can now produce up to 300 million cans annually.
“Ultimately, we concluded that our company values align, and core competencies complement each other. This led to an easy decision to develop this collaborative effort that combines a proven, high-quality process and with the innovation that drives our solutions,” said Mike Daniel, COO and Co-founder of American Canning.
