The ninth annual edition of London Craft Week 2023 will take place in October and will feature events across the city that celebrates sustainability and cutting-edge technology in design and handiwork. Many advocates of sustainable design and craft will be attending the event, including Anabela Chan, the world's first fine jewellery firm to employ gemstones created in labs. The business, known for its thoughtful and cyclical approach to materials, will also showcase its works, such as the 'Mermaid's Tale,' which is fashioned from recycled and refined aluminium cans from beach cleanups.
{alcircleadd}“As a sustainable and ethical brand, our ideas always stem from thinking about new solutions to create a positive environmental impact within the industry. The core idea was to find a solution to reduce waste ending up in the landfill or the ocean, and creating a circular economy by turning aluminium cans into fine pieces of jewellery. Like all metals, aluminium is infinitely recyclable; yet there is a misconception in thinking that precious metals like gold and silver are only appropriate for jewellery. As it is a remarkably lightweight material that allows for grander scale pieces, it can be colour-treated with different techniques and aluminium proved to be the perfect material to bring my colourful Blooms Collection to life,” said Anabela Chan.
Creativity and sustainability are the current fashion trends making waves. Fashion trends are continually changing, influenced by various factors such as social movements, technological advancements, and economic conditions. One such development that is rapidly gaining pace is the use of sustainable and ecologically friendly materials such as aluminium to mitigate adverse environmental consequences.
Following the COVID-19 epidemic, many are attempting to make their homes more personal and unique, and most people are more conscious of the quantity and origin of the objects they choose. Consumers are choosing to purchase fewer items more thoughtfully for environmental concerns and to support small artisans rather than large, mass-producing businesses.
