Ardagh Metal Packaging-Europe has reportedly inked a virtual power purchase agreement with BNZ in Portugal. According to the terms signed, Ardagh will secure 146 GWh per annum of renewable electricity commencing from 2026 for 12 years, which is expected to help the metal beverage cans-producing company offset about 50 per cent of AMP-Europe’s continental energy consumption.

{alcircleadd}Schneider Electric, a leading adviser in corporate renewable energy procurement and carbon management, has played a crucial role in this agreement by helping Ardagh Metal Packaging-Europe in project selection and negotiation.
AMP-Europe’s latest renewable energy agreement with BNZ in Portugal follows the solar energy agreement signed earlier this year with Sunnic Lighthouse GmbH. All these renewable power purchase agreements will help AMP-Europe shift to 100 per cent renewable energy sources for decarbonised metal can production by 2030.
AMP-Europe said it would continue working with Schneider Electric to secure more power purchase agreements.
On securing the latest agreement, David Spratt, CEO of AMP-Europe, said: “We are delighted to partner with organisations like BNZ that share our commitment to accelerating a clean energy transition. This vPPA marks a significant milestone in the expansion of our vPPA portfolio in Europe and is a major step towards AMP’s CO2 reduction and renewable electricity goals.”
Luis Selva, Managing Director of BNZ, said: “Our collaboration with AMP-Europe demonstrates how a strategic alliance can have a significant positive impact for all parties involved. This vPPA not only strengthens our presence in Portugal, one of our key markets, but also contributes to our shared commitment with AMP-Europe to promote decarbonisation and move towards a more sustainable future.”
John Powers from Schneider Electric commented, “Making renewable energy more accessible to every organisation is a crucial part of meeting global emissions targets. We thank AMP-Europe for their concerted efforts toward this endeavor. It has been a pleasure to collaborate along shared values and the promise of a sustainable future.”
