The Aluminium Stewardship Initiative (ASI) announced the certification of Hydro Aluminium Rolled Products operations against the ASI Chain of Custody Standard. ASI certified Hydro Aluminium Rolled Products operations for the sites in Grevenbroich, Hamburg, and Neuss (Germany), the joint venture site Alunorf (Germany) (including outsourcing contractors).
{alcircleadd}Hydro’s CoC Certification includes smelting, re-melting, and casting operations, thus enabling the company to manufacture ASI certified aluminium.
Einar Glomnes, Executive Vice President Rolled Products, commented: “We are happy and proud to be certified against the Chain of Custody Standards by the Aluminium Stewardship Initiative, which enable us to offer certified aluminium to our customers. This is an important milestone for Hydro on our ambitious sustainability agenda, and in our strategy to help our customers document that they offer aluminium products that are sourced and produced responsibly throughout the entire value-chain”.
The ASI Certification program is the only comprehensive voluntary sustainability standard initiative for the aluminium value chain. The Certification program was developed through an extensive multi-stakeholder consultation process. The independent, third-party audits of the Rolled Products operations were carried out by DNV GL.
Hydro’s same operations achieved certification to ASI’s Performance Standard in March 2019.
Fiona Solomon, Chief Executive Officer at ASI said “In the past months, Hydro has shown determined leadership in its efforts to achieve ASI Certification for its operations. This is a testament to Hydro’s corporate commitment to sustainability across their business areas, and to Hydro’s staff, who are the driving force getting the work done on the ground. After already certifying 9 operations to the ASI Performance Standard, the ability to offer their customers ASI certified aluminium having achieved CoC certification is another great milestone.”
