The Aluminium Stewardship Initiative has successfully certified Novelis’ rolling and recycling activities at the facility in Pindamonhangaba, Brazil, against the Performance Standard Certification.
{alcircleadd}The facility has an annual capacity of 490 thousand tonnes for recycling and 680 thousand tonnes for aluminium sheet, primary destined for beverage packaging and consumer and industrial packaging in South American region.
The ASI Performance Standard defines environmental, social and governance principles and criteria, with the aim to address sustainability issues in the aluminium value chain. It sets out 59 criteria under the three sustainability pillars of Governance, Environment and Social, which address key issues such as biodiversity, Indigenous Peoples rights, and greenhouse gas emissions.
Fiona Solomon, Chief Executive Officer at ASI said, “We warmly congratulate Novelis on this Performance Standard certification at the Pindamonhangaba plant in Brazil. We’re pleased to see Novelis continue its strong expansion of third-party audited ASI Certifications, now at 12, spread across 5 countries. Novelis also makes a valuable contribution to ASI governance and development, via their respective contributions through the ASI Board and Standards Committee.”
The independent, third-party audit of Novelis’ Pindamonhangaba facility was carried out by DNV Business Assurance Services UK Ltd.
