Aluminium Stewardship Initiative (ASI) announced the joining of Hindalco Industries Limited-Kuppam Works as its new Production and Transformation member. An integrated facility with aluminium extrusion presses, anodising, powder coating, and fabrication facility, Hindalco Industries Limited Kuppam Works is a one-stop production solution for extrusion profiles for the B&C, industrial, automotive, and solar segments.
The Kuppam factory, around 120 kilometres from Bengaluru, provides specialised aluminium extrusion goods and services for the automotive, building & construction, and industrial markets. It would increase Hindalco's presence in South India, the country's second-largest extrusions market.
"ASI Certification will strengthen the sustainability initiative of Hindalco Industries Kuppam Unit and help to strengthen ESG capabilities," said Mr Rajiv Upadhyay, Joint President Unit Head Kuppam Works.
Hindalco acquired the Kuppam extrusion plant from Hydro in 2021. The deal was finalised at US$33 million. A total of 500 people are employed at the fully integrated factory in Andhra Pradesh, which can produce 15,000 tonnes of aluminium extrusions annually.
Aluminium Stewardship Initiative (ASI) aims to advance sustainability along the whole value chain for aluminium. By proving their dedication to social, environmental, and ethical norms, ASI accreditation benefits both the aluminium industry and aluminium users.
