Aluminium Stewardship Initiative has reportedly acknowledged Hindalco’s Renukoot Downstream facility in Uttar Pradesh against Performance Standard V2 (2017) Certification for remelting and refining activities, casthouses, and semi-fabrication.
The facility manufactures aluminium ingots, wire rods, and rolled and extruded products destined for diverse industries, including building and construction, transportation, and industrial applications.
The ASI Performance Standard V2 (2017) certification defines environmental, social and governance principles, with 59 criteria addressing key issues like biodiversity, labour rights, indigenous people rights, and greenhouse gas emissions.
Hindalco acquired the certification after completing an independent, third-party audit with CETIZION Verifica. Since the audit took place before May 31, 2023, the company received a Performance Standard V2 certification.
On receiving the certification, Mr N. Nagesh, Cluster Head, Hindalco Renukoot, said: “Achieving ASI Performance Standard Certification is a testimonial of our strong ambition to implement world class responsible production practices. The certification process helped us to align and improve our business activities with global best practices, and enables us to provide our customers the assurance of sustainable and responsible practices. We look forward to working with all stakeholders involved in the ASI certification process towards further improvement of our sustainability performance, and to contribute positively as a solution provider in the aluminium value chain.”
Fiona Solomon, Chief Executive Officer at ASI, said: “We congratulate Hindalco Industries Ltd for achieving Performance Standard Certification at its Renukoot Downstream facility. Rolling and extrusion products are vital components in various downstream industries, serving as key players in the aluminium value chain. ASI Performance Standard Certification enables the assessment of achievements against industry-specific ESG criteria, the identification of areas for improvement, and helps to chart a course toward continuous improvement of responsible production practices.”
