Azerbaijan’s aluminium output grows 5.8% in Q1 2025, reflecting a positive domestic market

EDITED BY : 2MINS READ

Azerbaijan, increasingly recognised as an emerging player in aluminium production but still a newbie now, produced 15,500 tonnes of aluminium (including semi-finished products) during the first quarter of 2025. That marked a 5.8 per cent rise compared to the same period last year, reinforcing its growing reputation as a budding hub for aluminium production.

Based on the data available in many reports, the growth in aluminium production in Azerbaijan could be attributed to the increasing demand for rolled products, fuelled by the unprecedented scale of residential construction being carried out in the country, where a huge amount of aluminium profile is being used for glazing works. The increase in aluminium demand in Azerbaijan is evident from the previous year’s data, which showed that in the first four months, it grew to 43,100 tonnes.

The country at the boundary of West Asia and Eastern Europe, supported by only one smelter: Ganja Aluminum Complex, which produces both primary aluminium and semi-finished products, has also championed 18,800 tonnes of exports, including both primary metal and semi-finished products, during the period under review. The State Statistics Committee reported that an additional 3,000 tonnes were in store.

However, there was a slight decline in export volume of about 0.7 per cent from Azerbaijan, although the share of aluminium exports in Azerbaijan’s total export volume increased by 0.83 per cent from 0.8 per cent in Q1 2024.

Meanwhile, Azerbaijan’s aluminium export value gained 10.2 per cent over the year, reaching $53.1 million. That indicated a solid demand for aluminium worldwide and higher market prices.
