India’s iconic aluminium producer, Bharat Aluminium Co (BALCO) has won the prestigious ‘Golden Peacock Award 2020’.
{alcircleadd}As per the press release on 14th February 2021, BALCO’s CEO & Director, Abhijit Pati in a virtual ceremony received the Golden Peacock Awards, instituted by the Institute of Directors (IOD).
Mr Abhijit Pati expressed his happiness over the win, by saying: “Vedanta’s ethos of ‘Zero Harm, Zero Waste and Zero Discharge’ continues to guide our environmental and social performance. BALCO has effectively optimized and excelled its overall performance through its focused approach to operational excellence practices, innovation, analytics, resource optimizations, waste utilization and its overall impact on local communities.”

“The Fly ash disposal from its power plant to the ash dykes is disposed of through advanced High Concentration Slurry Disposal (HCSD) systems. The fly ash is then utilized to make bricks and for road construction”, the press release said.
Govt. of India holds a 49% stake in the BALCO, while Vedanta Ltd holds 51% stake. The company’s operations at Korba in the state of Chhattisgarh with a smelter capacity of 570 ktpa with capabilities to produce ingots, Alloy ingots, wire-rods, busbars and rolled products.
