The prolonged wait of an Angolan company Bauxite Angola for resuming its cooperation project, particularly for exploring bauxite deposits seems to finally come to an end in 2018. In 2007, Bauxite Angola had secured rights to the bauxite reserves in Guinea Bissau and in April 2012, the project was suspended by the African Union following a military coup in Bissau. Since then the company has been looking forward to the solvent of political turmoil and recommencing the mining project all over again.
{alcircleadd}Angola’s second deputy speaker Higino Carneiro announced on Tuesday, April 10, 2018, that Bauxite Angola is going to resume its bauxite exploration projects in Guinea-Bissau soon, as reported by the Angolan Press.
Speaking at the end of an audience with the Guinean head of state José Mário Vaz, Carneiro expressed Angola’s interest in “continuing to develop the projects,” which began in 2007 with signing a bilateral cooperation agreement.
Carneiro arrived in Bissau on Tuesday and was received by the two signatories of the bilateral cooperation agreement Cipriano Cassamá, President of the Guinea Parliament and Artur Silva, the head of state and the current Prime Minister.
While their conversation, Carneiro also intimated the president that a few of their officials are currently located in Bissau to work with Bauxite Angola project’s representatives, as reported by the Angolan press.
Along with it, Bauxite Angola also intends to resume its agricultural activities. At the time of signing a bilateral cooperation agreement, Angola took two companies to Guinea-Bissau to conduct mining exploration and to agricultural and industrial activities. Officials who are currently located at Bissau are looking to work with officials connected to the agricultural project as well, as reported by the press.
