Bauxite market this week saw a few developments such as Ghana’s confirmation on the ongoing process of expanding the existing bauxite mine in Awaso and developing additional mines in Nyinahin and Kyebi.

The West African nation Ghana, which ranks as one of the fastest-growing economies in Africa and where bauxite mining keeps on to be the most happening news in the past few months, has confirmed the ongoing process of expanding the existing bauxite mine in Awaso, as well as developing additional mines in Nyinahin and Kyebi.

Canyon Resources Limited has made public that it has executed a Cahier de Charges, with the State of Cameroon (“Agreement”), in regards to the development of the Company’s Minim Martap Project. The Agreement, which was originally proposed by the Ministry of Mines in Cameroon and following negotiation over several crucial points, was finally executed on 17th May 2021, with the Company and the Minister of Mines in Yaounde, the capital of Cameroon.

The Franco-Guinean bauxite tycoon Fadi Wazni chaired  SMB-Winning Consortium has been building a railway track for more than 2 years to be used for the exploitation of its mining activities. On 25th May 2021, the first rail link which connects the mining area of Santou to the new river port of Dapilon was carried out as a curtain-raiser to the official commissioning of this line, announced for 16th June 2021.

India’s bauxite reserves are high-quality metallurgical grade bauxite deposits and which are close to four billion tonnes. However, these colossal bauxite deposits are majorly untapped, and the country is yet to take the advantage of this natural wealth for economic growth and development. While at the same time, paradoxically, bauxite importation remains an ongoing process to meet the domestic demand, with an estimated loss of $570 million in the existing six years.
