The European Tube Manufacturers Association (etma) announced the "Tube of the Year 2023" winners and the winning tubes were presented in Amsterdam at the end of May. This year, the POREfessional tube by Benefit Cosmetics, part of the luxury company LVMH, won under the aluminium tube category. Alltub France manufactured these tubes using more than 95 per cent post-consumer recycled (PCR) aluminium. The tubes have been finished with a matt, translucent lacquer that highlights the brushed metal of the tubes beautifully.
{alcircleadd}The etma annual conference and the third World Tube Congress, both well-attended, provided an appropriate backdrop for the prize presentation. The winners in the categories of aluminium tubes, plastic tubes, laminate tubes, sustainability, and prototypes were chosen by a jury of seven representatives from etma member firms.
Under the sustainability category, the Japanese consumer goods business Kao bagged the first prize for its aluminium tube used in the package redesign of their well-known product Goldwell TOPCHIC Permanent Hair Colour. The collaboration with Kao aimed to employ post-consumer recycled (PCR) throughout the packaging to drastically minimise the carbon impact.
Both packaging components - and therefore both kinds of material - are now made of PCR material: the tube is made of 100 per cent PCR aluminium, and the closure is made of 100 per cent PCR plastic. The carbon footprint is reduced by 92 per cent (cradle-to-gate) when PCR aluminium slugs are used. The manufacturer's PCR packaging comprises post-consumer recycled aluminium waste, such as cable wires or lithographic plates.
Finally, in the prototype category, the jury selected Alltub Italia's collection of aluminium tubes as the competition winner. The tube manufacturer responded to the growing popularity of aluminium tubes in the market for high-end cosmetics with its winning invention.
The attention and client desires are progressively centred on the tubes' design-oriented, unique, and recognisable look. Alltub Italia has devised an invention that makes the aluminium tube even more appealing with its in-line over-varnishing application procedure launch.
