The Bowling Green Chamber of Commerce Foundation has expanded its aluminium can recycling program to help fund the BG Boom Festival and Fireworks. BG Boom, the annual Independence Day celebration for the Bowling Green community, will be held on July 3, 2024. The event will feature a festival at the Wood County Fairgrounds from 4 to 9 p.m., culminating in a fireworks display at dusk.
About the program
The Aluminum Can Recycling Program, initiated in partnership with Bates Recycling several years ago, has consistently raised several thousand dollars for this community event. The seasonal can drive will continue through June 30. Aluminium cans can be recycled at Bates Recycling Centre at 12729 Jerry City Road in Cygnet. When BG BOOM is mentioned, Bates will donate 5 cents to the Chamber Foundation for every pound recycled.
WLI is organizing the collection of aluminium cans. Bates Recycling will recycle the cans gathered in these receptacles. The Chamber Foundation will share the proceeds equally with WLI, supporting their outreach and activities.
For every pound of aluminium deposited in the bins, Bates Recycling will donate 10 cents to the BG BOOM Festival and Fireworks. The city is encouraging more businesses to sponsor the festival by donating $750 to host aluminium can collection bin at their location.
Location of the donation bins
The first donation bin is at Work Leads to Independence on South Main Street. It is located at the south entrance, to the right of the large overhead door, and is accessible Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. The second drop-off location is at the Gas & Express Mart BG Marathon on North Main Street, and it is accessible 24/7.
The BG BOOM Festival and Fireworks are set for July 3 from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the Wood County Fairgrounds. The event promises plenty of family fun and activities made possible by the community's support.
"We're going to have inflatables, food trucks, all kinds of activities for the community. Doing things like the can drive - it just really helps us make the event bigger and better. Not only are you helping make the event more spectacular, you are also doing a little bit of good for the environment by recycling," said Bowling Green Chamber of Commerce event lead Kristen Kreienkamp.
