Capral Aluminium marked a significant milestone in sustainable sourcing this month with the receipt of the first Aluminium Stewardship Initiative (ASI) Chain of Custody (CoC)-certified cargo from Aluminium Bahrain (Alba). The accreditation ensures that the aluminium in its products is ethically sourced and processed by the highest environmental, social, and governance criteria.
Alba’s CEO, Ali Al Baqali, said, “This is our first ASI CoC shipment into Australia, following an industry-leading move by Capral to achieve their own ASI Chain of Custody certification.”
Capral joined ASI last year and last month announced certification in ASI Performance Standard V3 and Chain of Custody (CoC) V2 for extrusion, storage, and distribution of aluminium goods and services, which applies to all 26 Capral plants in Australia. Alba, situated in Bahrain, is a worldwide aluminium smelter that has been a member of the ASI since 2019 and announced CoC accreditation in May.
“Capral embarked on the journey of ASI Performance and Chain of Custody Certification to offer Australian manufacturers, engineers, architects and builders who are working with our product confidence regarding the origins of their aluminium,” said the company’s Luke Hawkins.
CoC certification is a globally recognised standard for responsible aluminium production, sourcing, and use, ensuring that all stages of the production process, from raw material extraction to refining, smelting, and primary aluminium billet production, have been carried out responsibly and transparently.
