A company based in Powys, CastAlum recently showcased its technical innovations to other manufacturers in mid-Wales. The event, organized by the Mid Wales Manufacturing Group (MWMG), invited local manufacturing and engineering companies to visit CastAlum's site in Welshpool. The site specialises in die-casting aluminium parts that are mostly used in cars.
{alcircleadd}Karl Meredith, the Managing director, declared: "Ninety per cent of all production is for export, their components going into vehicles such as BMW, Ford, General Motors, Porsche, Mercedes, Jaguar Land Rover, as well as non-automotive customers."
"Over the past nine years, we have heavily invested in the development of new products, processes, and capabilities. Through their own investigation and expertise, their process solutions meet world-class quality standards," Karl explained.
CastAlum's Welshpool site was established in 2000-2001, serving only one customer at that time. Twenty years later, the company now supplies parts to various countries such as the UK, Europe, Canada, and Mexico.
During the event, Chris Probert and Dan Burgess from the Welsh Government presented on the Economic Futures Fund and the new Flexible Innovation Support. They also highlighted the SMART FIS, a unique Welsh Government Scheme aimed at helping Welsh organizations achieve "Innovation Excellence."
Avril Lewis from Technology Connected educated the guests about Wales Tech Week, which will be hosted in October. The event will showcase Welsh technology and its ecosystem while promoting the industry internationally.
The group manager at Mid Wales Manufacturing Group (MWMG), Ceri Stephens, asserted: "We are grateful to the team at CastAlum for hosting today's visit and showcasing their innovation excellence to the industrial community in Mid Wales".
After the presentations, visitors had the opportunity to take a factory tour, where they could see the recent machinery investments, including the Additive Material Technology process.
