On November 27, 2022, the Guinean mining company, Compagnie des bauxites de Guinée (CBG), officially launched a ceremony for the upkeep, maintenance and securing of old sites rehabilitated with native species for rational or sustainable management. The CBG laboratory meeting room served as a framework for this meeting, which took place in the presence of the regional inspector, the prefectural director of the environment of Boké and all the administrative, municipal, CBG and representatives.
{alcircleadd}The general management of the CBG was commended for this project initiative on this occasion by Mamadou Oury Bah, the mayor of the rural commune Sangaredi, on behalf of his populace. He claimed the CBG had replanted numerous hectares of land in several Sangaredi localities affected by the mining firm.
According to Amadou Traoré, Mining Health Safety Biodiversity Operations Coordinator of Sangaredi and representative of the Director of Mines, "This project is once again eloquent proof that the restoration and preservation of our plant cover are at the heart of the CBG's commitments."
"In terms of the conservation of the environment, and biodiversity, CBG, as we say in the slogan (we do more than bauxite), has recruited qualified companies for the reforestation, maintenance and securing of the sites for rehabilitation. Since 2010, CBG has reforested 2,557 hectares in the various localities impacted by the company in the rural commune of Sangaredi."
Youssouf Kéita, the spokesman for the three (3) businesses chosen for the project, said, “This is the first project of its sort in Guinean mining history to restore native species for rational or sustainable management in the CBG concession.”
"We reassure you of our full availability as to the correct execution and respect of the deadline of this project bringing happiness to the communities impacted by mining. We inform you that through this project, CBG is putting into practice its slogan, which says we do more than bauxite."
In addition, N'Fanly Camara, the regional inspector of the environment and sustainable development of Boké, said, “This project is essential for the respect of the rights of the environment in the concession of the CBG. Furthermore, this rehabilitation is a noble and effective action allowing us to return our plant cover."
