Vedanta- controlled Bharat Aluminium Company Limited (BALCO) has received notice for the closure of its 1,200 Mw power plant from the Chhattisgarh Environment Control Board (CECB). The closure notice has been issued over alleged green norms violation.
{alcircleadd}CECB has asked the company to file a response within 15 days. The board would examine the response and then would ask the company to close its plant if result would find unsatisfactory.
The closure notice states that ash slurry coming out of the damaged ash dam passing near the plant is polluting water in the Belgiri nullah (canal) that drains into Hasdeo river.
The closure of plant that is located in Chhattisgarh’s Korba district is expected to have impact on the production of aluminium due to lack of power.
