Recently, the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region Energy Bureau released a statement regarding the implementation of green power supply projects. Chinalco Group's "Baotou Aluminum Industrial Park Green Power Supply Project" and "Baotou Aluminum Coal-fired Power Plant Renewable Energy Alternative Project" have both been included in the list of market-oriented new energy projects.
This is a significant step forward for Baotou Aluminum's new green energy initiatives. These two approved projects will have a combined installed capacity of 2.1 million kilowatts, with 1.9 million kilowatts coming from wind power and 200,000 kilowatts from photovoltaic sources.
Upon project closure, the Baotou thermal power plant's peaking capacity and the electrolytic aluminium load absorption capacity will be utilised to integrate new energy deeply. This approach is expected to increase the company's proportion of green electricity to over 40%.
Additionally, it will decrease annual carbon dioxide emissions by 5.96 million tonnes, laying the foundation for Baotou Aluminum to pursue sustainable, green, low-carbon, and high-quality development. Furthermore, this will help cultivate and develop new momentum and enhance new competitive measures.
In the past few years, the Baotou Aluminum conglomerate has shown a high degree of political and action consciousness, actively practising the new development concept and implementing the "double carbon" goal. The Party Group of Chinalco Group, the Party Committee of Chinalco Shares, and the Party committees and governments of Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region and Baotou City have provided vital support to Baotou Aluminum in accelerating its pace of transformation and development.
The official grant for these two latest energy projects is set to support Baotou Aluminum's "green aluminium road" journey, as it will definitely ramp up the pace of green, low-carbon and high-quality raw material production.
The micro-site selection of the two new energy projects has been completed, and they have entered the stage of detailed land exploration. Moving forward, Baotou Aluminum will prioritise the "project is king" principle and aid its new energy project team, accelerate the progress of relevant procedures, facilitate the optimisation of design, reduce costs, and streamline construction. Baotou's goal is to swiftly and efficiently execute the project with early, fast, and effective energy, ensuring early project commencement and timely production.
