Shanghai Metals Market data showed China’s alumina production in October 2021 came in at 6.29 million tonnes, including 6.05 million tonnes of metallurgical grade alumina. On a month-on-month calculation, the output edged 1.45 per cent higher than 6.20 million tonnes, while on a year-on-year basis up by 2.11 per cent from 6.16 million tonnes.
{alcircleadd}The daily average metallurgical grade alumina production in China was 195,200 tonnes, 2.2 per cent less than 199,500 tonnes in September 2021 but 1.8 per cent more than 192,000 tonnes in October 2020.
From January to October 2021, China produced 59.70 million tonnes of metallurgical grade alumina in total, which reflected an increase of 7.1 per cent from 55.74 million tonnes during the corresponding period last year.
China’s net imports of alumina in October 2021 were 300,000 tonnes, and alumina surplus was about 257,000 tonnes.
SMM data also showed that as of early November, China’s metallurgical grade alumina production capacity was 71.43 million tonnes per year, while the installed capacity was 88.60 million tonnes per year. In the entire month (30 days), the output is expected to come in at 5.9 million tonnes, while the surplus of the ore is likely to be around 260,000 tonnes.
