According to China customs data, domestic aluminium extrusion exports from January to February 2024 totalled 170,900 tonnes, reflecting a month-on-month increase of 3.26 per cent and a year-on-year hike of 35.36 per cent.
The export volume stood at 108,300 tonnes and 62,000 tonnes in individual months. The export in January encountered a month-on-month increase of 21.86 per cent and a year-on-year rise of 23.55 per cent, and the export in February decreased by 42.14 per cent M-o-M but hiked by 62.15 per cent Y-o-Y.
The general downtrend in China’s aluminium extrusion exports during February of every year could be attributed to the traditional domestic peak season, which turns into increased consumption of aluminium products within China.
There was no major change in the list of export provinces, with Guangdong being the highest exporter, accounting for 48.74 per cent, followed by Shandong, accounting for 15.05 per cent, and Jiangsu for 9.49 per cent.
Among the export destinations, India surpassed Vietnam in February 2024 to occupy the first place in the Southeast Asia. India accounted for 6.18 per cent of China’s total aluminium extrusion exports, while Vietnam for 5.93 per cent and the Philippines for 5.42 per cent.
The overall increase in exports was due to overseas pre-holiday stocking and accelerated procurement and delivery.
