China’s production of 10 nonferrous metals fell 2.2 per cent to 4.42 million tonnes in August, according to the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS). The country’s aluminium production declined for a second successive month to the lowest level since April 2016 in August.
China’s aluminium production decreased 3.7 per cent year-on-year to 2.64 million tonnes in August. During January- August, the country produced 22.17 million tonnes of aluminium, an increase of 6.1 per cent from a year ago.
“We do think aluminium production will go slightly down going forward,” Jackie Wang, an aluminium consultant at CRU in Beijing said. “Because of the supply-side reform cuts and upcoming winter cuts, we expect to see a bit of a deficit in Q4 in China.”
China’s nonferrous production increased 4.9 per cent to 36.4 million tonnes in the first eight months of 2017.
