According to a State Government official, Chhattisgarh Mineral Development Corporation Ltd. (CMDC) has sought 99.35 hectares of forest land diversion in Chhattisgarh to develop bauxite mining.
{alcircleadd}CMDC aims to search major and minor minerals and precious stones and seek mining rights for exploration and development of the mines. Chhattisgarh government already has confirmed two limestone blocks and one bauxite block are ready for auction.
The Ministry of Mines has been monitoring the process very closely with the state governments to make the process more pragmatic without sacrificing the checks on successful bidders. The Mineral Auction Rules have been amended on November 30, 2017.
Chief Minister of Chhattisgarh had stated earlier that minerals extracted in Chhattisgarh should be used for units located in the State on a priority basis to boost revenue collections and also increase job opportunities. The Chief Minister had also emphasised that Chhattisgarh Mineral Development Corporation (CMDC) should do mineral search and exploration.
Officials informed that in FY 2015-16, Bauxite exploration works were undergoing in Pandariya Tahsil of Kabirdham and Murtunda of Surguja districts of Chhattisgarh. Bauxite prospecting is also going on in Bamhtara village of Kabirdham district. The Bauxite exploration work would also be undertaken in Bhursipakri and Mukam. Both the projects were sanctioned during the meeting.
Chhattisgarh government also inaugurated a web-based e-governance application ‘Chhattisgarh Integrated Mines and Mineral Management System’ to receive requests for various relaxations on minerals and timely disposal of applications.
District mineral foundations have been formed in those districts to carry on road construction, health and environment development and general development in the areas.
The Chhattisgarh Government plans to carry out survey and mapping for 1,000 square kms of State’s area during 2015-16 for geological exploration during the 12th five year plan (2012-17). The state aims to explore Bauxite, Limestone, Iron ore, Coal, Dolomite, Manganese and Granite in the state.
