Crown Holdings, one of the world's largest aluminium can manufacturers, pledged to make the aluminium industry more sustainable by incorporating Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) principles into its business operations. Thus, Crown Holdings, in its 2022 Sustainability Report, announced a new initiative and strategy: Twentyby30™. It is a programme with 20 measurable sustainability goals to be completed by or before the end of 2030.
{alcircleadd}According to Tom Donahue, President, CEO & Chairman of the Board at Crown Holdings, the objective of Twentyby30™ programme was to embed sustainability into business operations and reduce adverse impacts on the planet within a decade.
So far, with this programme, Crown Holdings has achieved a 12 per cent reduction in Scope 1 and Scope 2 GHG emissions, which is 24 per cent of the way toward Crown's goals of a 50 per cent combined reduction by 2030. The programme also enabled Crown Holdings to use 34 per cent of renewable energy of the total electricity used in 2022. This achievement meant the company achieved 45 per cent of its goal of using 75 per cent of renewable energy by 2030.
Through the Twentyby30™ programme, Crown Holdings is committed to ensuring the stewardship sourcing of raw materials, renewable energy optimisation, safe production, minimum impacts on the environment, and economy circularity throughout the value chain.
Since the implementation of this programme, Crown Holdings has reduced the overall global average standard (12oz or 330ml) can weight by 6.44%, which is more than 60% of the company's goals of a 10% reduction by 2030.
