Tesseract Structural Innovations has been the design consultant for the company and they have been reproached to provide design reconstructions for a structural element (14 parts) within an electric vehicle (EV) battery enclosure that is already present.

With the inclusion of SmartMetal into the production of the component, the new blueprint is scheduled to enhance performance by decreasing weight, improving crash resistance, diminishing manufacturing difficulty and levelling working costs for the OEM.

Cymat Technologies bags OEM contract

“This opportunity is the culmination of almost a year’s work of exploring potential solutions for the OEM’s challenges with EV battery enclosure systems,” Cymat claimed in a referral.

The primary phase of the agreement will engage in conceptual design monitoring followed by evaluation of performance through computer simulation.

Cymat eventually will have to supply its commissioner with physical prototypes for the OEM to authenticate simulation results. Cymat hopes for a serial production contract after successful crash testings by the OEM are accomplished and other manufacturing or pricing details are dealt with.

Cymat authorities exclaimed: “As this component is common to a number of vehicle platforms and would be treated as a running change, the potential volume of SmartMetal together with the compressed timeline to production, management views this opportunity as being transformational for Cymat,”

“The OEM has also indicated an interest in having Cymat/Tesseract evaluate other elements of their battery enclosure for performance enhancement,” the provider added.

The CEO of Cymat, Michael Liik elaborated: “This has been a long time coming and I am excited that Cymat has finally broken into the automotive sector. Our material is ideally suited for the complex challenges faced by EV manufacturers. Consequently, we are now seeing interest from numerous auto parts companies and auto manufacturers around the world. This development contract vindicates our strategy of focusing on electric vehicle battery enclosure performance, an area still very much in its infancy.”
