The Directorate General of Trade Remedies (DGTR), which operates under the purview of the commerce ministry, has commenced an inquiry to reassess the necessity of maintaining the anti-dumping tariff on imported aluminium alloy wheels from China. Grievances expressed by the domestic industry have prompted this action.
On behalf of the domestic industry, Kosei Minda Aluminium Company (KMA), Maxion Wheels Aluminium India, Minda Kosei Aluminium Wheel, and Steel Strips Wheels have applied for the initiation of a sunset review investigation for the continued imposition of anti-dumping duty levied on imports of 'aluminium alloy road wheel' exported from China.
According to a notification issued by the Directorate General of Trade Remedies (DGTR), the petitioners have shown prima facie evidence indicating the occurrence of product dumping from China despite prevailing anti-dumping measures.
Following legal regulations, it is customary to put an anti-dumping duty on a product for five years unless the government rescind such measures. The Directorate General of Trade Remedies (DGTR) possesses the authority to assess the necessity of maintaining the duty before the expiration of five years.
The imposition of the duty on the product occurred for the first time in May 2015. The extension occurred in 2019 and subsequently in 2022. The current obligations are scheduled to terminate on April 8, 2024.
