On October 11th, Dongxing Aluminum Company achieved a significant milestone as 20,000 tonnes of its electrolytic primary aluminium liquid received certification from the Green Product Evaluation Centre of the China Nonferrous Metals Industry Association. With this certification, Dongxing Aluminum's product officially earned the designation of "Green Aluminum," marking a major step forward in its commitment to sustainable practices in aluminium production.
{alcircleadd}In December 2022, the China Nonferrous Metals Green Product Evaluation Centre introduced a new concept of "green aluminium" in its group standard, Guidelines for Evaluation and Trading of Green Aluminum. This initiative aligns with the aluminium industry's low-carbon development strategy and responds to current market demands.
According to the guidelines, "green aluminium" refers to electrolytic aluminium products—such as primary aluminium liquid and remelting aluminium ingots—produced using green electricity from renewable sources like wind, solar, hydro, geothermal, ocean, and biomass energy.
Electrolytic aluminium production is energy-intensive, with power costs comprising roughly 40 per cent of total production costs. To overcome developmental challenges, the industry must focus on reducing energy consumption, boosting output, and fostering competitive strength in sustainable practices.
In July 2024, the company officially submitted its green aluminium evaluation materials to the designated platform. By providing green electricity certification documents and data on the comprehensive AC consumption of its electrolytic primary aluminium liquid from January to June 2024, the company successfully completed the evaluation process for 20,000 tonnes of green aluminium.
