Efficient power transmission with Diamond Power Infrastructure’s AL 59 wire rods

EDITED BY : 2MINS READ

Diamond Power Infrastructure, known for manufacturing aluminium conductors and other power transmission equipment has launched a commercial production at its inaugural rod mill, which is dedicated to manufacturing next-generation AL 59 wire rods. The company is also advancing a Green Field project that will house three-rod mills, collectively capable of processing 250 MT per day or 7,500 MT per month.

With an estimated investment of INR 550 million, the initiative is set to produce high-performance aluminium-based alloys tailored for efficient power transmission. Currently, the company operates its own rod mill with a monthly capacity of 1,200 MT.

AL 59 wire rods are aluminium alloy wire rods made primarily from high-purity aluminium with magnesium additives. Known for their excellent conductivity, high strength-to-weight ratio, and corrosion resistance, they are widely used in manufacturing electrical conductors for power transmission and distribution lines.

The addition of the new mill is set to substantially boost its conductor production capabilities. Operated by its wholly owned subsidiary, DICABS NextGen Special Alloys, the Vadodara-based facility boasts a processing capacity of 80 metric tonnes (MT) per day, totalling 2,400 MT per month.

In India, the annual demand for AL 59 conductors stands at around 1,000,000 MT, yet only five manufacturers have integrated rod mills capable of producing high-quality AL 59 conductors, with a combined annual capacity of 500,000 MT. To help close this supply gap, DICABS NextGen Special Alloys plans to produce 75,000 MT of AL 59 conductors per year, reinforcing its market presence while meeting the rising demand for efficient power transmission solutions.
