Emirates Global Aluminium (EGA), the most significant industrial organisation in the United Arab Emirates, excluding the oil and gas sector, has nodded in agreement to provide Kobe Steel with CelestiAL solar aluminium for creating automotive body sheets designated to be used in Nissan vehicles.
{alcircleadd}EGA's supply deal with Kobe Steel will help in introducing the company's flagship solar aluminium, CelestiAL, in one of the most humungous rolling mills in Japan. Aluminium sheets are hugely in demand due to the rising Japanese automotive sector that gulps them down to constitute vehicle body components like panels, bonnets and doors.
EGA has nourished a business relationship with Kobe Steel for more than two decades and a half, supplying them with over thousands of tonnes of aluminium each year.
The Chief Executive Officer of EGA, Abdulnasser Bin Kalban, narrated: "EGA was the first company in the world to make aluminium using solar power, and we are proud that our CelestiAL metal will now be used in Nissan vehicles through Kobe Steel, as well as those of other leading global car companies. We look forward to increasing our production of CelestiAL over the years ahead, contributing to the decarbonisation of EGA and of end-user industries, including auto manufacturing. I thank Kobe Steel for their continuing trust in EGA and our metal."
In 2021, EGA hoisted itself as the first company on the planet to have generated the primary batch of commercial aluminium utilising solar power via an alliance with Dubai Electricity and Water Authority. Both these Government bodies are responsible for running the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park, located on the outskirts of Dubai, stretching over a vast desert zone.
EGA has plans to expand its CelestiAL production capacity through a programme incorporating Abu Dhabi National Energy Company PJSC (TAQA), Dubal Holding and Emirates Water and Electricity Company (EWEC). This will help the company to divert from its electricity origins to the sourcing of power from the grid, depending more on green energy and creating better sustainable working conditions.
The emerging power demand from EGA will definitely increase the pace by which EWEC develops more solar energy projects. The expansion requirement is higher than the originally installed solar generation capacity of UAE, and EGA is plotting to apply this newly enhanced solar power sector at its ripe phase.
Since EGA tactfully uses solar power to produce CelestiAL solar aluminium, the process substantially curtails harmful emissions that come hand-in-hand with the aluminium smelting process. In turn, the end-user industry leaders can reduce their individual Scope 3 emissions in a safe and effective way.
EGA's deal with Kobe Steel comes after the company had made prior agreements with Hammerer Aluminum Industries, from where automobile giants such as BMW Group and Mercedes- Benz usually acquire their car body parts.
