Emirates Global Aluminium (EGA), the world's largest 'premium aluminium' producer, has recorded yet another milestone. The company has produced 40 million tonnes of hot metal since its operations in 1979. As a result, roughly 3 per cent of all aluminium made in the UAE has been by EGA.
{alcircleadd}"Reaching 40 million tonnes of hot metal production is a proud moment for everyone who works at EGA. Together, we have innovated aluminium to make modern life possible. Since EGA was founded by His Highness Sheikh Rashid as Dubai Aluminium, we have been a pioneer of economic diversification in the UAE while growing into a champion of the aluminium industry globally," said Abdulnasser Bin Kalban, Chief Executive Officer of EGA.
Aluminium is a crucial component of modern life, and EGA's metal is utilised by billions of people in everything from cell phones to skyscrapers. The UAE is now the world's fifth-largest aluminium producer, thanks to EGA's growth since the 1970s. After oil and gas, aluminium is the second-largest export from the UAE and is sent to more than 50 nations. 1.5% of the UAE economy comprises the aluminium industry, which has EGA at its core.
For EGA to produce its first 10 million tonnes, it took over 30 years. EGA's expansion has accelerated in the last ten years, turning it into a titan of the integrated aluminium industry worldwide. EGA sold 2.54 million tonnes of cast metal the previous year.
EGA was the first business in the world to produce aluminium using solar energy on a commercial scale last year. EGA sells this metal under the trade name CelestiAL. The use of solar energy significantly reduces the emissions caused by smelting aluminium.
