Elval, the only Greek producer of flat rolled aluminium products, has been acknowledged by the Aluminium Stewardship Initiative against the Chain of Custody Standard certification. The news came after ASI announced that it successfully certified the aluminium rolling division of Elvalhalcor S.A. for the facility in Oinofyta, Greece.
{alcircleadd}The facility’s operations include re-melting and casthouse activities, hot/cold rolling, coil coating, and finishing lines. Aluminium rolling products manufactured at the facility are destined for the downstream industries and various products including aluminium foil and special alloys used in the automotive industry and food cans.
In July 2020, the facility achieved the ASI’s Performance Standard certification.
Fiona Solomon, Chief Executive Officer at ASI, said: “We warmly congratulate ELVAL Hellenic Aluminium Industry on achieving ASI CoC Standard Certification at their Oinofyta plant, the first CoC certification to be achieved in Greece. In addition to primary sources, this facility taps a stream of recycled used beverage cans sourced from a recycling center established by ELVAL, with the objective to increase the recycling rates in Greece. The Chain of Custody Standard certification ensures that a system is in place for tracking eligible scrap as it comes into the facility, is processed, and flows onward to the next step in the value chain, and gives ELVAL’s downstream customers important insight into the aluminium products they are sourcing.”
Lambros Varouchas, General Manager at Elval, ElvalHalcor’s Alluminium Rolling Division, said: “We are very pleased to receive the ASI Chain of Custody Standard certification, an important achievement for our sustainability programme. Building on the sound ESG practices that we have long established in our production facilities, this certification allows us to offer to our customers ASI-certified aluminium products, manufactured from material sourced and processed within the responsible supply chains that are certified by the Aluminium Stewardship Initiative.”
The independent, third-party audit of the Elvalhalcor S.A. facility was carried out by DNV Business Assurance Services UK Ltd.
