EGA is the world's first company to do so, enabling the automation of the process of submitting analysis certificates. These are quality assurance documents required for metal shipments into and out of LME-approved warehouses worldwide.

Metals are eligible for delivery into LME warehouses only when they meet specified standards for quality, shape, weight, and the Exchange's responsible sourcing requirements.

Emirates Global Aluminium has achieved a significant milestone by connecting certificates of analysis digitally to the London Metal Exchange. This facility will allow greater traceability, accessibility, and transparency to metal quality without needing physical documents, which can be lost or damaged with time during shipment.

Abdulnasser Bin Kalban, CEO of Emirates Global Aluminium, said: "Our digital transformation is a core part of achieving EGA's bold aspiration to innovate the future of aluminium production. Leading our sector in digitally providing certificates of analysis to the LMEpassport platform is just one way we are using big data and analytics to transform the efficiency of our operations and business at EGA."

London Metal Exchange Head of Physical Markets Georgina Hallett commented: "We are delighted that EGA has made the first direct connection to LMEpassport, taking advantage of a digital solution that in time will entirely replace the need for paper certificates of analysis across all physically delivered LME metals, bringing greater security, traceability and operational efficiency to the trading of physical metal."

In one of the interviews with AL Circle, Hugo Brodie, Head of Product Development & Innovation at LME, explained LMEpassport by saying, “LMEpassport is a platform to store and maintain essential provenance and chemical analysis documents for traded metal - Certificates of Analysis (CoAs). The CoA is the key quality assurance document that must accompany all shipments of LME aluminium into and out of LME warehouses. All aluminium smelters that produce LME-branded material must also provide a CoA to the LME for their brand (demonstrating that the metal meets the LME’s metallurgical thresholds) to be initially registered. They show the metal’s origin, LME brand name, and associated chemical analysis.”
