EDITED BY : 2MINS READ

Accidents or fire incidents in the aluminium industry highlight the need to implement advanced technologies and stringent safety measures to mitigate such risks. Raising awareness is essential, especially in countries like India, where a larger workforce and limited adoption of modern technology increase vulnerabilities.

On Tuesday, January 28, a fire broke out at BRT Extrusions, an aluminium extrusions manufacturing facility in Niles. Investigators from the State Fire Marshal’s Office are examining a fire and reported that the fire started at the paint booth of BRT Extrusions.

Emergency crews responded to reports of a large fire in the paint booth on N. Main Street just before 2:15 p.m. Fire Chief John Stevens stated that firefighters quickly extinguished the blaze once they accessed the affected area.

The fire was contained within the paint booth, though crews remained on-site for an extended period to cool down equipment. The cause of the fire remains unknown. No injuries were reported.

Comprehensive fire safety training is crucial for employees, covering proper material handling and storage, identifying potential ignition sources, and adhering to emergency protocols. Regular training sessions and drills can significantly enhance awareness, equipping workers with the knowledge and preparedness to respond effectively in case of a fire.

However, this is not the first time that accidents like these have happened in the aluminium industry. Other similar accidents, such as the massive fire outbreak at the Kudalwadi-based aluminium factory, the Chhattisgarh alumina refinery fire incident, the Press Metal fire report, etc., are some of them.
