The upcoming bridge in UP would be the first to include sound barriers, at an estimated expenditure of INR 2 crores. Aluminium sound barriers will be constructed throughout the whole 700-meter length of the bridge on both sides. By implementing these barriers, the noise originating from beyond the road boundaries will be reduced to below 55 decibels, according to the established norm. Sound barriers have been implemented on some Delhi, Mumbai, and Bangalore bridges.
"Sound barriers are being installed to ensure that the sound of vehicles running on the Bakshi Bandh ROB does not create problems for the locals. Work of installing them will likely be completed by January 20," said Project Director, UP State Bridge Corporation, Anirudha Yadav.
Following the construction of the sound barrier, a team of specialists will assess whether the vehicle noise is effectively regulated following the established criteria. While an Italian company manufactures the barriers, the Bridge Corporation will acquire them from Mumbai.
According to sources, authorities will also conduct tests on some samples of the sound barrier before commencing the construction process. The Bridge Corporation has installed reinforced crash barriers on both sides, measuring 1.5 metres apiece. Additional sound barriers, measuring 1.5 metres in height, will be placed on top of the existing concrete barriers.
