French collective to take legal action against mining companies in Guinea

Guinea is nowadays one of the bauxite exporting countries in the world. More and more voices are being raised about mining by companies. The Collective for the Transition in Guinea (CTG), intends to initiate legal action against them very soon for more "clarifications".

During a press conference organized on 11^th July’20, in France, the CTG cited the name of one of the mining companies which are in its sight, to which besides, it would require clarifications: "At the heart of this system, there is UMS, which is a conglomerate, which engages in rather dubious practices. UMS is one of our targets, because the rules of contract, of exploitation, must be healthy, transparent and democratic, and that also, the populations suffer and die from pollution, the absence infrastructure, misery in these areas, it is something unacceptable and insane”, laments the collective.

One of the regions of Guinea, which attracts the attention of the CTG, is that of Boké. According to him, this region lacks almost everything: “Boké is the heart of mineral wealth. Today, it is one of the poorest cities in the country, one of the cities in which the mortality rate is the highest, the lack of road infrastructure, water, electricity, is glaring. And all of this points to the responsibility of these mining companies,” he said.

At the same time, the collective also intends to attack certain relatives of the President of the Republic, Alpha Condé, who are evolving in the mining field: "Besides, all these clans in the turn of President Alpha Condé, who have become scandalously enriched, will be also the object of this legal action, which is in progress and which is already launched. We will give details as soon as the hearings start,” promises the collective.
