GE’s Jérôme Pécresse to join Rio Tinto as a new Chief Executive for the aluminium business

Rio Tinto Group, the world's second-largest metals and mining corporation, has appointed Jérôme Pécresse as the Chief Executive for the aluminium business. Jérôme Pécresse will  join Rio Tinto on October 23, 2023, succeeding Ivan Vella.

Jérôme will bring more than 30 years of experience in senior leadership roles in global mining and energy companies. He served General Electric (GE) as President and CEO for its Renewable Energy business since 2015 and directed a broad portfolio of business in hydropower, solar and storage, onshore and offshore wind, and electricity grid.

Before GE, Jérôme worked with Alstom from 2011, leading the company's Renewable Energy business. Besides, he served a Paris-based global industrial minerals producer, Imerys, for 13 years in various roles and ultimately as a Chief Operating Officer (COO). Jérôme is a graduate from Ecole Polytechnique and Ecole Nationale des Ponts et Chaussées.

Rio Tinto Chief Executive Jakob Stausholm said: "Jérôme brings a wealth of experience across renewable energy, mining, business development and strategy, ideal for shaping our industry leading aluminium business for a low carbon future. I look forward to welcoming Jérôme to Rio Tinto and to the diverse contribution I know he will make to our business at this critical moment for our industry."
