The acquisition became effective on December 31, 2024. Both companies are family-owned businesses with rich histories in the recycling industry. The companies state that their longstanding collaboration has fostered a "wonderful working relationship" grounded in shared values and a mutual passion for growth in the recycling industry.

They believe this new partnership will enable Mallin Cos. to achieve synergies that enhance competitiveness and reinforce its leadership in processing insulated aluminium, aluminium conductor steel reinforced (ACSR), and underground residential distribution (URD) cables.

GLE, a first-generation family company with two decades of experience, operates six full-service metal recycling centres across Michigan and Florida. Its diverse portfolio also includes a brokerage and trading division, an insulated copper wire recycling facility, and Great Lakes Electronics Corp., an R2-certified electronics recycling branch specializing in responsible recycling practices.

According to the companies, Mallin Cos. will continue its operations in Kansas City, maintaining its current leadership and workforce. Zach Mallin, the company's president, will remain at the helm, supported by GLE and its affiliated entities.
